When we took over Stitches in July we were amazed at the amount of love and support we received not only from friends and family but also from the wider community and customers that have been visiting Stitches for years. Growing up outside the city, we became more and more conscious of the amount of homeless people on the streets in Galway on our visits into the shop. Charity work has always been something that we have been passionate about, and so when we saw the Galway Simon Communities ‘Virtual Sleepout’ event we decided to get involved. We though about what approach to take for a while and decided that we should stick to what we do best and donate some facemasks. These people on the streets deserved the same level of protection from Covid-19, and with new rules regarding masks in shops and public buildings It meant some of these people couldn’t even go into the shopping centre to use the bathroom without being turned away. We donated 120 Facemasks altogether to the Charity for them to distribute to the homeless community in Galway, and also promoted their Virtual Sleepout event which was a huge success! We also raised money through Facebook and instore donations and were happy to be able to contribute something. This charity does amazing work and we were delighted to be a part of it. Big thanks to Amy from the Galway office and also her colleague Tim who helped us. Keep up the good work!
